owner and lead guide
At eleven, I wanted to lead trips in the outdoors. By sixteen, I was leading and teaching whitewater skills. After graduating college, I moved to Kathmandu and spent the next twelve years leading hiking, whitewater, mountain-bike trips, and teaching whitewater skills to local guides. Whenever the opportunity arose, I used my spare time to organize private trips and first descents.
During my first years in Nepal, I branched off in a new direction with the purchase of 250 rolls of Kodachrome. I spent six months traveling around Asia building my portfolio and establishing myself as a commercial photographer. My work has now been featured in The New York Times, National Geographic, CNN Traveler, Travel + Leisure (SE Asia), Discovery Channel, GEO (Germany, Russia), Outside, The North Face, Patagonia Inc., Oriental Hotel (Bangkok), Marriott Hotel (Bangkok), Kodak, IBM, UNICEF, UNESCO and Thai International. I now live in Bangkok, Thailand where I combine my passion for travel and photography with my company Compass Rose Expeditions. Using my vast background in adventure travel, I can bring new opportunities and angles on our Photography Tours, while making these accessible to clients of all ability levels. When I lead Custom Adventures, I am never far from my camera and can help clients capture some of our world’s most fascinating moments.
Travel is the best education in the world.
